Interview with Blair of Blair’s Death Sauce

I had the opportunity to spend alittle time with Blair Lazar, the founder of Blair’s Death Sauce at the Fiery Food Festival. Blair and his wife were both very nice. Blair and I sampled a new sauce that he will make available in the near future called Golden Death Sauce. I think that Blair was right on rating this sauce a 2 out of 10 on the heat scale. The flavor was great, it tasted like a good buffalo wing sauce.

While at the show I sampled all of the other sauces that Blair had at the show, including Ultra Death Sauce. There is a variety of products available from http://www.extremefood.com including beef jerky. Josh and I will be reviewing the jerky made with Sudden Death Sauce.

Interview with John, “The Creator”

I had the opportunity at the show to interview John, “The Creator” from Defcon Sauces. Despite his appearance and the immense enjoyment he gets out of seeing other people suffer, the Creator is a very nice guy. Outside of the Defcon Zero hot sauce, the other sauces that they have available had a very good taste. You can order any of these at http://www.defconsauces.com. Josh and I will be reviewing some of these sauces in the future.

Defcon Zero Trials

The videos below of some people trying Defcon Zero sauce are pretty good. Omar has a tough time with the sauce and then convinces his friends to try the sauce. Notice the very small amount of this sauce that the people actually sample.

The Hot Sauce Guru Samples Defcon Zero

I sampled Defcon Zero produced by Defcon Sauces at the Fiery Food festival.  Notice how much sauce John gave me compared to the people in the other videos. This is easily one of the hottest sauces that I have ever tried.  This sauce has been tested at around 2 million scoville heat units.  As you can see in the videos, John, “The Creator” thoroughly enjoys watching people suffer when they try his sauce.  As you can imagine, Josh and I will not be reviewing this sauce for quite a while.

CaJohns interview

One of the people I had the opportunity to meet at the show was John from CaJohns hot sauce.  John and his wife Sue are great people and I feel fortunate that I was able to spend some time with them.  John sent a few bottles of hot sauce for Josh and I to review.  Josh and I will also be taking a trip to CaJohn’s new facility to see the production and sample some products on site.

Jason’s Mom’s Hot Sauce Trial

We sampled Jason’s Mom’s hot sauce at the Fiery Foods Festival. Jason’s Mom is from Orlando, FL and this sauce became famous from her son using the sauce on pizza across the street from the UCF campus. I thought the sauce had a very good flavor, Josh and I will do a full review on this sauce also.

Golden Toad Habanero Pepper Sauce Trial

Scott, Joe, and I sampled this sauce at the Fiery Foods Festival.  The sauce was very tasty.  Josh and I will be doing a full review of the sauce shortly.  We will have to review some other weaker sauces before we build up to this one.

Fiery Food Festival Review

My trip to the Fiery Food Festival was my first visit to any hot sauce show. I sampled over 100 different sauces in one day, many of which were very good. I brought home many bottles of hot sauce which Josh and I will be sampling over the coming weeks. I also sampled some sauces that were hotter than anything I had tried so far, including some sauces that were over 2 million Scoville units. One million Scoville units is approximately five times hotter than an orange Habanero pepper.

During our visit to NM we took a side trip to get a green chile cheeseburger at the Bobcat Bite in Santa Fe (as seen on TV) and visited many popular local restaurants. I enjoyed sampling all of the different sauces and meeting the owners and inventors of the different concoctions. I will be posting some interviews with a few of these people.

I really enjoyed hanging out with the other Chileheads that allowed me to join in their group. Buddah, Scott, Parker, Joe, and Chilehead Ed showed me the ropes and we all had a great time. I’m looking forward to many more good times with these guys in the future.

Good videos of people sampling Black Mamba

Here are a few videos of people sampling Black Mamba hot sauce by CaJohns. This sauce is a pepper extract with a Scoville Heat Unit rating in the millions, which is very hot. You can order your own bottle at http://www.cajohns.com After watching these videos, there is a video of me in the post below sampling this same sauce and another extract the same day. Enjoy!!

Hot Sauce Guru Samples Some Pepper Extracts

Here is a video filmed by Buddah of www.iloveitspicy.com at the Fiery Food Festival.  The second extract that I sampled has a heat measurement in the millions on the Scoville Heat Unit scale.  I would not recommend trying extreme pepper extracts unless you are able to handle habanero peppers easily.  There were two people that passed out from extracts on day two of the show, I witnessed one of them.
