Firehouse Hot Sauce Review

Mike: Cajohn’s Firehouse Hot Sauce has a reddish-orange color and is a thin sauce.  You can definitely taste the black pepper and garlic in the sauce.  I mentioned in the video that I thought the sauce would be similar to Tabasco sauce due to the smell and that was not the case, this sauce tastes nothing like Tabasco sauce.  The sauce has a good flavor and moderate to low heat.  I would rate this sauce a 4 out of 10 on the heat scale.

Josh:  At first we thought that Cajohn’s Firehouse Hot Sauce would taste similar to Tabasco Sauce, but we were wrong.  Firehouse Hot Sauce has a much better taste that the very common Tabasco Sauce, although, I feel that Tabasco Sauce is a little more spicy.  I would recommend that you try this sauce in place of Tabasco Sauce because I guarantee you will enjoy this sauce more.  I am rating Firehouse Hot Sauce 4 out of 10 on the heat scale.

Growing peppers

At the Fiery Foods Festival I picked up seeds of some peppers that aren’t very common.  I got Red Caribbean Habaneros, Cajamarcas, Uba Tubas (Christmas Bell), Aji Limon, and of course the Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Pepper).   Once the peppers are ready Josh and I will be sampling the peppers for your viewing pleasure.  That should be really interesting.

I planted a few of each about two weeks ago and most of the peppers have already sprouted.  The Bhut Jolokias are the only ones that have not sprouted yet and that is normal as they will take almost twice as long as other peppers to sprout and grow.

All of the peppers are planted in pots with a somewhat coarse soil designated for cactus and palms.  I put the seeds approximately half an inch deep into the soil and have been keeping them watered.  You have to make sure that once these have sprouted that they don’t see temperatures below 50 degrees over night.

For those of you interested in growing peppers, I will post updates with pictures of the peppers as the grow.

Endorphin Rush Beyond Hot Sauce Review

Mike: Endorphin Rush Beyond Hot Sauce has a little bit of a barbecue flavor. The flavor of the sauce is alright for a sauce with pepper extract in it. The sauce is a deep red color and is a very thin sauce. This sauce is more for heat than flavor. Adding a small amount of this sauce to your buffalo wings will give you some extra heat. I am rating this sauce a 6 out of 10 on the heat scale.

Josh: Endorphin Rush Beyond Hot Sauce had some heat to it. I did not like the taste of the sauce by itself, it may be a little better on a chip. I can’t imagine putting this sauce on anything else for flavor. This may be a good starter for someone ready to take on some heat. I am rating this sauce a 6 out of 10 on the heat Scale

Chipotle Hot Sauce

Mike: Chipotle Hot Sauce from Cajohns Fiery Foods has a good chipotle barbecue flavor. This sauce would be great on chicken. The sauce has a deep reddish color and is thinner than most barbecue sauces. I am rating this sauce a 2 out of 10 on the heat scale.

Josh:  I thought CaJohn’s Chipotle Hot Sauce had a very good flavor.  The hot sauce reminded me of barbecue sauce, but with a little bit of heat to it.  I really liked the taste of this sauce.  I am rating this sauce a 2 out of 10 on the heat scale.

Oaxaca Hot Sauce Review

Mike:  CaJohn’s Oaxaca Hot Sauce is a traditional style taco sauce.  This sauce tastes just like you are sampling a scoop of beef taco meat, it is very good on chips.  If you like beef tacos, you will definitely like this sauce and since the sauce has very little heat anyone can try it.  I rate this sauce a 1 out of 10 on the heat scale.

Josh:  CaJohn’s Oaxaca Sauce had an excellent flavor that tasted just like beef tacos.  It had very little heat, but I think the objective of this sauce was a good flavor and they sure nailed it.  I recommend this sauce if you are looking for flavor.  I actually had a second sample of the sauce after the trial was over because it tasted so good and I don’t normally enjoy hot sauces.  Must try!  I am rating this sauce a 2 out of 10 on the heat scale.

Interview with Blair of Blair’s Death Sauce

I had the opportunity to spend alittle time with Blair Lazar, the founder of Blair’s Death Sauce at the Fiery Food Festival. Blair and his wife were both very nice. Blair and I sampled a new sauce that he will make available in the near future called Golden Death Sauce. I think that Blair was right on rating this sauce a 2 out of 10 on the heat scale. The flavor was great, it tasted like a good buffalo wing sauce.

While at the show I sampled all of the other sauces that Blair had at the show, including Ultra Death Sauce. There is a variety of products available from http://www.extremefood.com including beef jerky. Josh and I will be reviewing the jerky made with Sudden Death Sauce.

Interview with John, “The Creator”

I had the opportunity at the show to interview John, “The Creator” from Defcon Sauces. Despite his appearance and the immense enjoyment he gets out of seeing other people suffer, the Creator is a very nice guy. Outside of the Defcon Zero hot sauce, the other sauces that they have available had a very good taste. You can order any of these at http://www.defconsauces.com. Josh and I will be reviewing some of these sauces in the future.

Defcon Zero Trials

The videos below of some people trying Defcon Zero sauce are pretty good. Omar has a tough time with the sauce and then convinces his friends to try the sauce. Notice the very small amount of this sauce that the people actually sample.

The Hot Sauce Guru Samples Defcon Zero

I sampled Defcon Zero produced by Defcon Sauces at the Fiery Food festival.  Notice how much sauce John gave me compared to the people in the other videos. This is easily one of the hottest sauces that I have ever tried.  This sauce has been tested at around 2 million scoville heat units.  As you can see in the videos, John, “The Creator” thoroughly enjoys watching people suffer when they try his sauce.  As you can imagine, Josh and I will not be reviewing this sauce for quite a while.

CaJohns interview

One of the people I had the opportunity to meet at the show was John from CaJohns hot sauce.  John and his wife Sue are great people and I feel fortunate that I was able to spend some time with them.  John sent a few bottles of hot sauce for Josh and I to review.  Josh and I will also be taking a trip to CaJohn’s new facility to see the production and sample some products on site.
